As you enter the Shekhawati region, the colourful land of the Rajputs, you will be welcomed by Havelis, Forts, Temples and Cenotaphs, the murals and frescoes of which have been painted with spell-binding legends of the Shekhawat Clan. Set against this dramatic yet exotic backdrop is The Desert Resort, Mandawa.
At the entrance you will be greeted by traditionally dressed guards mounted on camels and the sweet sound of local music. As you step inside you will find yourself in a verdant oasis in the midst of a stark desert landscape.
The mystery and romance of the region are captured in the unusual architecture of the resort which has been recreated in the style of a typical rajasthani village. Camels, peacocks, birds and Khejri Trees surround traditional mud-finished cottages decorated with local artwork. The Desert Resort reflects the traditional harmony between man and nature in the region.
Here, you can experience a whole new world - the aesthetic charm of the rural without compromising on luxury or comfort.
What will you love?
The first thing that you will notice about the Desert Resort is its authenticity and how well it blends in with its surroundings. With peacocks dancing in lush green lawns and camels walking through the surrounding desert, this place looks like an oasis from the “Arabian Nights”.
If you are the kind who likes to experience “living like a local”, you will instantly fall in love with the mud-finished cottages built in traditional Rajasthani style. Each cottage has its own separate seating area and the walls are thick, covered with traditional white lime paste paintings and detailed mirror and bead work done by the local village women.
Wake up to the sounds of tweeting birds; be treated with the sights & smells of pure nature; and take an early morning stroll to the oasis. Spend the day lazing around the pool area which is equipped with a staffed bar. Watch the sun go down into the dunes while you sip on a cup of tea and end the day alongside the roaring bonfire sharing the puppet stories and witnessing the rich culture of the fire dancers and “bhopa” folk music.
Go for a camel ride or take a walk through the nearby villages and learn the craft of making “mandana” from the local artisans. There even is a dairy farm attached to the resort and if you are feeling really adventurous you can ask the locals to teach you how to milk a cow. Experiences galore!
